Key Responsibilities
As the Legal Counsel for Canon UK, you will be expected to:
- Draft & Negotiate: Autonomously review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including customer contracts, supplier agreements, NDAs, and software licensing.
- Business Partnering: Provide day-to-day legal support to Canon UK business teams, Sales teams, and the Commercial Group (MD Office) to structure customer agreements efficiently.
- Risk Management: Identify potential legal risks in commercial transactions and offer pragmatic, actionable mitigation strategies.
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay on top of data protection, digital regulations, competition law, and marketing guidelines.
- Collaboration & Scale: Support the development of internal legal templates, playbooks, and training materials, while escalating complex matters to the Director of Legal.
Eligibility Criteria & Qualifications
To be successful in this in-house role, you must bring:
- Professional Status: A qualified lawyer with proven, relevant post-qualification experience (PQE) in commercial law or an in-house legal department.
- Tech Sector Exposure: Strong experience working within IT, Cloud, or technology-driven environments.
- Contractual Mastery: Proven track record in handling IT services, SaaS distribution, and complex technology agreements.
- Soft Skills: High emotional intelligence (EQ), excellent communication, and the ability to build seamless professional relationships across various business departments.
