The Role
As the Area Legal Manager, you will execute the legal department’s broader strategies to safeguard the company’s financial interests. You will act as a crucial link between internal business units, external counsel, and statutory authorities. Your primary focus will revolve around driving recovery efforts, defending the organization in disputes, and ensuring seamless field execution across both retail and digital lending portfolios.
Key Responsibilities
- Litigation & Recovery: Manage recovery cases, file execution petitions under the Code of Civil Procedure (CPC), and handle Section 9 and 17 Arbitration proceedings in district courts.
- External Counsel Coordination: Partner with external advocates and law firms to formulate pleadings, claims, counter-claims, and evidence for ongoing lawsuits.
- Crisis Management: Resolve on-ground crises, manage borrower complaints efficiently, and coordinate with law enforcement agencies to maintain a hassle-free environment across branches.
- Field Execution: Oversee Legal Officers and field teams handling warrant executions, notice services, and on-ground recovery efforts.
- Documentation & Reporting: Draft and respond to legal notices, maintain detailed MIS reports, and ensure accurate record management for all company litigation.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Undergraduate degree (LLB/Legal background essential).
- Legal Expertise: Strong working knowledge of banking laws, SARFAESI, Arbitration, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), the Negotiable Instruments Act, and the Contract Act.
- Execution Skills: Exceptional command over field execution, crisis resolution, and team leadership.
- Drafting: Excellent legal drafting and communication skills.
