The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), mandated under Section 12 (h) of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, invites applications for its prestigious Internship Programmes. These internships are designed to spread human rights literacy and provide university students with practical exposure to the protection and promotion of civil liberties.

1. Summer In-Person Internship (SIP)

A prestigious 4-week offline programme held in Delhi for deep immersion into human rights advocacy.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Law Students: 2nd/3rd year of 3-year LLB OR 4th/5th year of 5-year Integrated LLB.
  • Post-Graduates: Students pursuing LLM, MA in Human Rights, Political Science, Sociology, MSW, Criminology, Public Administration, etc.
  • Academic Record: Minimum 65% marks in Class XII and all subsequent semesters.
  • Age Limit: Maximum 28 years.
  • University: Must be enrolled in a regular course at a UGC-recognized university.

2. Online Short-Term Internship (OSTI)

A flexible 2-week virtual programme for students looking to balance academics with practical legal exposure.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Academic Record: Minimum 60% marks in Class XII and all subsequent semesters.
  • Undergraduates: 3rd year onwards of 5-year Integrated PG courses OR 3rd/Final year of Graduation.
  • Graduates/Research: All semesters of LLB (3-year), LLM, PG Diploma, or Ph.D. scholars.

Selection Process & Weightage

The NHRC follows a transparent, merit-based selection system. Candidates are evaluated based on a total score of 100:

  1. Class XII Marks: 30 Marks
  2. Graduation/Degree Marks: 40 Marks
  3. Statement of Purpose (SoP): 30 Marks

Innnlegal Pro-Tip: Your Statement of Purpose (SoP) is the tie-breaker. For the In-person internship, keep it between 300-500 words. For the Online (OSTI) version, limit it to 250 words. Focus on your “Reason for Joining NHRC” and highlight any prior research potential in Human Rights.


Important Rules for Applicants

Last Date for application – 27th April

  • One-Time Opportunity: If you have already attended a regular one-month NHRC Summer or Winter internship, you are not eligible to apply again.
  • Regular Students Only: Students from distance learning or non-UGC recognized universities are not eligible.
